Back Wednesday Oct. 19 the “BRA-Day” – Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, the international day of “Breast Reconstruction Awareness“.
The initiative, now in its fifth edition, includes a series of popular events in various Italian hospitals: coordinated by the Beautiful After Breast Cancer Italia Onlus, founded by the president Prof.ssa Marzia Salgarello, in Rome, Palermo, Bologna, Forli, Modena, Verona and Trento, numerous information and popularization proposals scheduled, during which the winners of the national literary competition “Those BRAve girls“.
The contest, conceived by Prof.ssa Adriana Cordova, professor of plastic surgery at the University of Palermo and president-elect of SICPRE (Italian Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery), is the newest addition to the BRA-Day 2016. Aimed at promoting writing as a therapy that helps overcome pain, the contest selected ten short stories related to breast cancer experiences that will soon be published by the Leima publishing house.
A Rome, in collaboration with the University Polyclinic Foundation A. Twins, a meeting will be held in the hospital lobby at 5 p.m.30 led by journalist Maria Concetta Mattei: A panel discussion to talk about a brighter future for women after breast cancer.
The debate will be attended by some experts from the University Polyclinic Foundation A. Gemini including Prof. John Scambia (Director of the Women’s and Children’s Health Sciences Cluster), Prof. Riccardo Masetti (Director of the Breast Surgery Operating Unit) and Prof. Salgarello.ssa Marzia Salgarello (Director of the Operative Unit of Plastic Surgery).
Also speaking at the event will be journalist Rita Dalla Chiesa, Prof.ssa Lucetta Scaraffia, Prof.ssa Chiara Palazzini, psychologist, Dr.ssa Ida Paris, oncologist, and many others, and will be screened “SIGNS OF SIGNS“, the short film signed by the director Agnese Rizzello; in closing, some women who have faced the disease will parade in clothes by designer Gianfranco Venturi.

The Beautiful After Breast Cancer Foundation, founded in 2011 by renowned Belgian plastic surgeon Phillip Blondeel and chaired in Italy by the head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit at Policlinico Gemelli, Prof.ssa Marzia Salgarello, is an international multidisciplinary organization whose goal is to help patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer rebuild their lives.
The nonprofit is dedicated to disseminating information regarding breast cancer and breast reconstruction, striving to convey to medical personnel, patients and the media the importance of this choice and wellness after a cancer diagnosis.
